Cricket

The word “cricket” has been around since the 16th century. Cricket is a bat-and-ball sport in which two teams take turns batting and fielding. It is considered to be the world’s second most popular team

sport, after soccer.

In cricket, teams compete with one another by bowling or batting balls towards a target (a set of structures called stumps) at the far end of a large field.

Each team scores runs when the other team fails to defend the wickets and these runs are added to the total score,

which is kept by a scorer. When both teams have batted, their aggregate scores are compared to determine which team is the winner.

Cricket has its origins in England in the 16th century. Written evidence exists of cricket being played by children in Guildford, Surrey as early as 1550.

By the 17th century, it has been described in a Puritan work as “almost deified”. The first definite reference to cricket in North America dates from the year 1744.

Its popularity spread north America and across the Atlantic to Canada between 1749 and 1795. Cricket became a national obsession in Britain during the 18th century; fueled by such events as the 1774 match

At Oldcastle between England and Scotland,

in which a team of women “gypsies” played against an all-star cricket team made up of local gentlemen.

Around the period of the American Revolution, a form of cricket became established, based on the strong Lancashire tradition and involving local clubs.

This was followed in 1785 by the establishment of Sheffield Cricket Club.

A number of clubs were formed in London in the 1780s, including Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for gentlemen

And “knights”; London Cricket Club for professionals and “gentlemen amateurs”. you can read the blog on economy
